Missing Man Rescued - Saturday, January 1, 2011
A missing mariner who departed Houston on Saturday, January 8th for a trip to Mississippi was found safe the following Wednesday off the coast of Louisiana, a US Coast Guard spokesman said. The 52 year old man, anchored off the coast of Marsh Island (south of Morgan City, LA) after a storm on Sunday damaged the rudder of his sailboat.
 
The man radioed the Coast Guard for help. He was rescued by the crew of the Cajun Courage, an offshore supply vessel off Marsh Island in Vermillion Bay early Wednesday morning. Gerald Monceaux, ISS Safety Coordinator was part of the crew that helped to rescue and feed the man as well as providing a phone to call his wife. The Coast Guard searched by airplane on Tuesday for the 32 -foot sailboat. The successful outcome was welcome news to searchers. (chron.com/news/Houston)
